Unread post Keyfiles
Hello,

I do not manage to load any keyfile in OTFBrutus GUI v 2.03 and 2.04. Is it a bug ?
- the button "add keyfiles" stays all the time grey.
- the checkbox "use key files" opens the drag and drop window where it's written ("drag and drop keyfiles onto this window") but it is impossible to drag any file in the window.
I have tried with both 2.0.3 and 2.0.4 betas versions of the GUI.
Other parts are working fine. i m using windows 7 ultimate 64 bits as admin.

Thanks for telling if it s a bug

It works on my 64Bit Windows 7 Pro system with UAC off. I don't know why it doesn't work for you.

I managed to get it working. I dont know what was wrong last time.

My new question is : will there be a brute force version ? by brute force I mean pure brute force (from a to z)...
because pw pattern and dictionnary are interesting but also the pure brute force

it s possible using the pw pattern but how do you write a password pattern for more than one special characters ?

a-Z0-9 \ @$/-*

I have 5 special caracters @$/-* and a-Z and 0-9

You can type in any pattern that you want but you cannot and never will be able to bruteforce the entire 256 bit key spectrum. In fact, you will never be able to brute force anything but the smallest subset of the 256 bit key spectrum.

[a-z]{6} contains 308,915,776 possibilities and would take over 12 days to process on my dual quad core xeon machine running 16 threads at ~286 p/s
[a-zA-Z0-9]{6} contains 56,800,235,584 possibilities and would take over 2300 days to process on my machine
[a-z]{8} contains 208,827,064,576 possibilities and would take over 8400 days to process on my machine
[a-zA-Z]{7} contains 1,028,071,702,528 possibilities and would take over 41000 days to process on my machine
[a-zA-Z0-9]{7} contains 3,521,614,606,208 possibilities and would take over 142000 days to process on my machine

a 28 bit keyspace contains 268,435,456 possibilities and would take over 10 days to process on my machine
a 256 bit keyspace contains ~1.158e+77 possibilities

[a-zA-Z0-9@$/\-*]
Hopefully the missing parts of that password are 3 characters or less, maybe 4. If you need to use that pattern for 4 characters, it would take almost 24 hours to process on my machine. 5 characters would take over 54 days.

Thanks a lot my friend.

I know calculation times are getting exponentially long ... i though with gpu calcul it would be feasible .
I have a container which has >20 characters

OTFBrutusGUI does not work in GPU mode. Supposedly, oclhashcat-plus does, http://hashcat.net/oclhashcat-plus/ and https://hashcat.net/forum/thread-2301.html. But it only does AES. Let's say you knew your TrueCrypt volume used AES and PBKDF2-HMAC-RipeMD160. The oclhashcat developers say you could about try 223,000 p/s.

[a-zA-Z0-9@$/\-*]{6} contains 90,458,382,169. At 223,000 p/s it would take over 4 days to process them all.
[a-zA-Z0-9@$/\-*]{7} contains 6,060,711,605,323. At 223,000 p/s it would take over 314 days to process them all.
