Unread post QTSource / QTInput
Hi, I am desperately trying to find a working method for opening large HD Quicktime prores files with multichannel 24 bit audio in Avisynth, but keep hitting brick walls.
My favourite is QTSource / QTInput, but have the issue with the audio, I am using a version from 2012, which now correctly uses the 24 bit audio, but does this version still have the problem which causes audio cut out after a certain amount of time?
I have tried all the other Avisynth quicktime openers, but all have big restrictions, mostly have to index the file, with with an HD movie take about 20 mins, or can't open 24 bit audio. QTSource / QTInput is the best and most flexible.
Is there anything I can do to get round this problem, can I try the latest version?

Kindest regards.

I honestly don't remember if I ever fixed that audio issue. I don't think I did. I use a newer, unreleased version, though, but again, I honestly don't remember what has changed between this newer version and the official release. You're welcome to give it a try though, I'll attach a zip file of the dll here.

If you can easily demultiplex the audio, you could load it separately with WavSource.

Hi tateu, it seems to be working on large 120 GB HD files! I need to do more tests to confirm.

Also I am trying to open a Prores 444 file which ffmpeg reports to be:

Code:
Stream #0:0(eng): Video: prores (ap4h / 0x68347061), yuv444p10le(bt709), 1920x1080, 22649 kb/s, SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 25 tbn, 25 tbc (default)

Should QTSource be able to open this file?

Kind regards.

I don't know. QTSource uses the Quicktime engine installed on your computer. If you can open it in Quicktime, then QTSource should open it. If you cannot open it in Quicktime, then QTSource definitely will not be able to open it.

Hi tateu, I can open this file fine in quicktime, so the system can open and play it fine, but keep getting the below error message.
Should I be using any of the color, mode or raw settings?

Also, it does seem you fixed the audio cut-off issue :)

Kind regards.

I am just getting the below error, can't seem to get it to work with any settings, yet I can play the Prores 4444 file fine on this system.

Code:
[avisynth @ 043ba7a0]
Unable to Open Movie, err=-50 :
E:\Prores_444.mov

(U:\MOVS\Prores_444_2.avs, line 1)
U:\MOVS\Prores_444_2.avs: Unknown error occurred

Kind regards.

That's just the generic "quicktime cannot open file" error message. There are tons of reasons that could happen.

The simplest one is the file name/path is wrong. Does your file actually exist at E:\Prores_444.mov ?

Sometimes QTsource has trouble opening files from certain drives. I don't remember all the details, it's been so long since I worked on this, but I think it used to have trouble opening files from network drives. Try moving the file to another drive.

I downloaded a 345MB 12 bit ProRes 4444 sample from http://files.sounddevices.com/prores4444-23.98.mov and it works.

Hi tateu, as usual you were correct. It was a location issue. The file now plays fine. Thanks for your help.
And I think you did sort the audio cut out issue, I am using your new version on 120 GB HD files, and the destination file has complete audio.

Many thanks for all your help.

Kind regards.
