Unread post Recourse!VeraCrypt Forgot Password.
Hello, I accidentally forgot my password, but I remember all password combinations.

For example, the password is "121AAAAzz", but I only remember the "AAAA",”zz","121".

I will not edit the program, what can help me decrypt files?

I don't think OTFBrutusGUI will work. VeraCrypt uses a different hash iteration count that is not compatible with TrueCrypt.

I also need to open a veracrypt file container where bits of the password have been forgotton.
I've checked that OTFBrutusGUI doesn't work with test veracrypt archives.
I've had a quick look through and the Veracrypt source files are largely the same structure as the Truecrypt ones.
If I recompile, with the veracrypt source files then is it likely to work for veracrypt hashes for or am I being naive?
Appreciate any pointers.

The only thing in the source code that needs to be changed is the iteration counts and the MAGIC keyword. I actually just compiled a version for someone else, the other day but unfortunately, VeraCrypt does some things to really slow down brute forcing the password. It increases the iteration count for the password hashing from 1000/2000 to 500000/655331. This means that brute forcing a VeraCrypt volume will take about 327 to 500 times longer than brute forcing a TrueCrypt drive. A password for a TrueCrypt volume that could be cracked in 1 hour would take over 13 or 20 days (depending on the has algorithm used) to crack for a VeraCrypt volume.

Because of this, it is very likely to be impossible to brute force a VeraCrypt volume like this.

If you are able to make a compile available to me I'd massively appreciate it. I shouldn't need it to be fast as unless I am a complete spanner (I have to admit it is me that forgot the password), I'll be able to create a short dictionary that covers all the words in the password.
I have spent the last few hours trying to compile in Visual Studio but I'm a bit crap and just get loads of errors I must be using the wrong version of wxwidgets or something.

http://www.tateu.net/files/OTFBrutusGUI ... aCrypt.zip

On my Dual 2.67GHz Xeon CPU computer, running 16 threads, if I know which hash algorithm I used, it would take about 1 to 1.5 hours to try 10,000 passwords. If I did not know which hash algorithm I used, it would take 3 times as long.

Thanks, much appreciated.
Unfortunately the PSU is fried on my floortop so I'm currently crunching away at 1.8pw/s on an elderly laptop but should get get there over the next few days.

Make sure to run it as Administrator.

And if you are on anything higher than Windows 7...I have no idea and can offer no further advice.
