Unread post BBweather 0.89.1 homescreen text
Hi, I have BBweather 0.89.1 (love it!) but am experiencing this after my BB Bold has just turned on: the weather icon on my homescreen says n/a - which I assume is normal because the phone has been off - but once I open the app and it retrieves weather information, my homescreen text always says "BBweather" even though in the settings I have it set to display conditions. If I perform an action like send an sms or make a call, then the display will go back to conditions, which is what it is set to display. any thoughts as to why this is happening? I have a Bold 9000, OS 4.6.0.247 Thanks!

As far as I can tell, this is a bug in the operating system. The text on an icon on the ribbon doesn't update until you press the menu button to go to the main application homescreen with all of the icons, then escape back out to the ribbon. I have tried a few different apps that all have this problem.

thanks for the reply. I have a theme loaded on my phone that when in use causes text to be cut off and I was also told it could be my OS. Guess I'll have to upgrade my OS. thanks again

That's not quite what I meant...As far as I know, it's a bug in all OS versions so there's nothing for you to upgrade to, to fix it.

Nothing to be sorry about...I just didn't want you spending the time to upgrade your OS to fix something that can't be fixed.
:)

thanks yeah I upgraded once and had to downgrade because it caused some issues I could not resolve. Don't really want to upgrade my OS again :-) thanks again!

Worth mentioning is that with the new BlackBerry Tour (Verizon), this bug is no longer present. Prior to the Tour, I had a BlackBerry 8830 and experienced the same issue that you've noticed. Now, the homescreen text+icon updates automatically without having to hit the menu key to force the update.

scamcdan,

Thanks for the info. I have the beta JDE Development tools, which allows me to run OS 5.0 in the simulator. I just tried it and it appears to be gone in 5.0, as well.

hi sorry if this is a stupid question - I'm new to Blackberry and still learning - but when you said the bug seemed to be fixed in OS 5.0 do you mean the Blackberry OS? .. because you mentioned in an earlier reply that upgrading my Bold OS wouldn't fix the bbweather homescreen text problem. thanks!

Yes, I meant Blackberry OS v5.0 but it has not been released yet and there is no official release date. I have never tried OS v5.0. I am running v4.6.0.247 on my Bold but the developer tools come with a Blackberry simulator that you run on a computer, which I have tried, and that's where I noticed that it is fixed. But then again...just because it works in the simulator doesn't mean it will work on an actual device.

It's the source code. You only need it if you want to compile it yourself.
